The absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare.

I fundamentally agree with the assertion that alternative choices always exist in the world and the circumstance of no choice, though sometimes appearing in people's lives, is rare.

Human beings, as the most brilliant creatures of the world, have always enjoyed their free will and use their wisdom to  to find various alternative solutions toward almost all the problems. This circumstance is very apparent in the science and technology realm. For instance, when people find that the rapid industrialization may eventually damage the harmonious relationship between human beings and the nature, they begin to take steps to solve this problem. A large amout of inventions and discoveries have been introduced to alleviate air pollution and other detrimental efforts brought by industrialization.

The evolution of human civilization is replete with such examples. The innovation of air plane make it possible for people to travel faster than before. The invention of satellites provide human beings with the opportunity to visit outside space. All of these illustrate the point that when there is a problem, there should always be many solutions.

When it comes to political arena, the freedom of choice is also manifest, especially in the democratic society. Some may argue that they have been trapped in unfair legal system and authoritarian states, and they have rare choice to select their jobs and to express themselves freely. It is a sad but true reality in some close societies. But even in the dictatorship society, the dictator can't root out the citizen's desire for freedom of choice. With the benefit of modern telecommunication technology and globalization, people living in the close society would eventually awake up and fight for greater freedom of choice.

That said, sometimes people's choices are limited by a set of foundamental principles. They face more or less situations without choice. For instance, people would die sooner or later; nobody can be an exception to the nature rule. That explains why the philosophical school of "strict determinism"-- the theory assumes that all people's behavior and fate are doomed or controlled by some outside forces -- are accepted by a certain amount of people. In other words, human beings can choose nothing in the decisions of their own behaviors and destiny.Unitl now the controversy between determinism and free choice still exist and no one can provide full evidence to beat the other. I prefer to support the latter because such kind of belief contribute to the affirmation of human efforts and is also beneficial to the development of human society.

In sum, though humankind today still face some circumstances without choice, they still can find ways and means to solve most of the problems surronding them and enjoy greater freedom of choices than ever. Thus, the absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare.
